The "Apology" of Socrates by Plato, presents the speech of self-defence given by Socrates in his trial for impiety and corruption (399 BC).The "Apology" of Socrates is the dialogue that depicts the death of Socrates and is one of the four works, along with Euthphro, Phaedo, and Crito, through which Plato details the final days of the philosopher Socrates. There is, however, no real way of knowing how closely Socrates' words in the "Apology" match those of Socrates at the actual trial.

The Charmides is a dialogue of Plato, in which Socrates engages a handsome and popular boy named Charmides in a conversation about the meaning of sophrosyne, a Greek word usually translated into English as "temperance," "self-control," or "restraint." When the boy is unable to satisfy him with an answer, he next turns to the boy's mentor Critias. In the dialogue, Charmides and then later Critias champion that Temperance is "doing one's own work" but Socrates derides this as vague.

Crito is a dialogue that was written by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. It depicts a conversation between Socrates and his wealthy friend Crito of Alopece regarding justice, injustice, and the appropriate response to injustice after Socrates's imprisonment, which is chronicled in the Apology. In Crito, Socrates believes injustice may not be answered with injustice, personifies the Laws of Athens to prove this, and refuses Crito's offer to finance his escape from prison. Plato's Crito is a dialogue between an imprisoned Socrates and Crito, a wealthy Athenian who has formulated and financed a plan for Socrates to escape and live in exile.
