The story begins with Harris chronicling a personal panic attack on national television while he was filling in as a News Reader for a colleague. According to the Nielsen ratings data, over five million saw his panic attack, which was the result of an extended period of what Harris calls "mindlessness", where he was focused on professional advancement and adventure.
Dan Harris began working at ABC News at 28 years old. When he joined the ABC News team, he was easily the youngest anchor there. Harris describes the ABC News environment as highly competitive and fast-paced. He had always been a worrier and found that being insecure drove him to accomplish his goals.
