Andy Selway-Woolley (he/him), an Oxfordshire based, qualified, caring, upbeat and inclusive Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist | Psychotherapist. I assist people to regain control of their life and improve their mental health, by retraining their brain to overcome limiting, negative thought patterns, master their emotions, and cultivate resilient behaviours for a brighter, more positive, happier and fulfilling life…. It’s awesome! 🤩 In a nutshellI, I get you ‘out of your own way’. Because, let’s face it, a lot of us are. In my past life, I’ve worn quite a few hats – kicked off as an HR Director, dove into running my own HR Consultancy, and even owned a recruitment agency. But then, burnout hit me like a freight train. But it led me to discover hypnotherapy, and boy, was that a game-changer. So, when Covid threw the world a curveball, I was already pivoting. I found myself working in A&E, driving ambulances, and hitting the books again to retrain as a therapist. I'm also in the final stages of a Level 5 Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and I'm about to begin training to become a Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher. It’s been a wild and enlightening journey, switching gears from burnout to helping people in so many different ways. • Lauren Kolb on Hypnotherapy from Birth to Chronic Pain Management
    Jul 3 2024

Welcome to another insightful episode of the National Council For Hypnotherapy Podcast!

Today, your host Tracey Grist sits down with Lauren Kolb, a distinguished hypnotherapist and trainer with 17 years of experience in the field.

Lauren shares her fascinating journey from a medical background into the world of hypnotherapy, initially focusing on hypnobirthing before expanding into a full-time practice addressing a variety of issues, especially chronic pain.

In this episode, they delve into the efficacy of hypnotherapy for both emotional and physical ailments, discuss practical self-help tips like creating a "special place" in your mind, and explore the concept of using anchors to manage stress and improve performance.

Lauren also offers advice on what to look for when choosing a hypnotherapist and shares her ongoing projects, including writing new CPD courses and expanding her training programs.

Tune in for an engaging conversation filled with valuable insights and practical advice for anyone interested in the transformative power of hypnotherapy.

    Lauren Kolb Bio

I graduated from the University of London with a BA in English and then worked for the Treasury Solicitor in a really interesting job tracking down relatives of people who had died intestate and with no known relatives – a government Heir Hunters!

Eventually I moved back north and worked in what would now be called a health care practitioner role, in the Civil Service. I was trained by GP’s and thoroughly enjoyed my job.

From there I moved into writing training materials and then became an Investors in People Assessor when that was popular. During that time I had two babies and then decided to get an Antenatal and Early Parenting Diploma and worked part time for the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) teaching antenatal classes. Hypnobirthing then hit the UK and my clients often asked me about this. This seemed like a good progression to me. I didn’t need to train in the pregnancy and birth side of things, so I decided to do a separate hypnotherapy qualification and design my own program. I trained in Manchester with Shawn Brookhouse and gained my HPD in 2008. I loved hypnotherapy so much that as soon as I went into practice, I used hypnotherapy for a full range of issues and not just birth. I have run a busy practice in Wrea Green ever since. Whilst working with a wide range of issues, I especially enjoy working with young people, hypnotherapy for pain relief and often work with drug users, either individually or as part of a team.

I then decided to teach the HPD and taught my first class in 2014 and have been teaching ever since. I am also a clinical supervisor and have supervisees locally and in various places around the UK. I am extremely passionate about my job and cannot think of a better job to do!
