Publisher's summary

The citizens of Azurvale are starting to feel the pressure. War with the Empire to the south is imminent, and there's talk of the city's adventurers being drafted into the campaign. Though this conflict seems inevitable and promises to be horrific, the common folk can do little but act like there's nothing wrong. Rather than lose sleep over something so wildly out of their control, they instead worry about tiny, personal, inconsequential issues. Things like, "Will the butcher have fresh steak today?" and, "Should I get those new boots now, or wait and see if they go on sale?"

However, though they try to maintain some modicum of normalcy, the people of Azurvale have yet to find out that their capital is already under threat. Not by some warmongering nation, but by a certain individual that has come to them seeking asylum, knowledge, profit, and power through any means necessary. As this newcomer burrows into the city's underbelly like a voracious tick, it cares not for the people it hurts along the way. Indeed, any soul unfortunate enough to cross paths with Boxxy T. Morningwood seems doomed to have their life ruined in one way or another. Often through no fault of their own.

Whether it's an ancient being, a skilled assassin, a godlike archer, or a fresh-faced recruit, none shall be spared from the whims of chaos.

Boxxy has gotten too overpowered

The Everybody-Loves-Large-Chests series has always been just an "ok" on story but made up for it in comedy. Here the comedy turns it down a notch in the beginning as the story dips its toes into romance. Yep, you read that right. Romance. It has a purpose, but it really isn't that funny. That ends up requiring more heavy lifting from the story and a mini mystery which really can't handle it. A good portion of the book is simply the usual Boxxy leveling up stuff, and that is undercut by him and his party being overpowered for their challenges. There is just not enough credible conflict for the story to keep you hooked. It's not bad, but it's not great either which is why I gave the story 3 stars.

As for the overall score I flirted with giving it 3 stars, but the ending really picked things up. If the whole book was like that it would have rated a 5. The key difference is that the stakes finally got raised, and all of Boxxy's levels and cunning were finally tested.

As with the other books in the series, this one is crude with its depictions of sex. If that offends you, stay away.

A great book

I've loved most of the books so far. The perspective always was nice and him now being a doppelgänger helps the story. The humor is on-point as always and most importantly, the sexual descriptions are now gone. The latter always seemed really unnecessary, so I won't miss it. I fully recommend this book.

The only thing is that the sound effects sometimes distract from the story.

It was a bad conclusion to the series.

While I enjoyed the series as a whole, this was by far the worst book in the series. Neven Iliev got away from what made his characters lovable with this story. It appeared that he wanted to give the story an epic conclusion but went too big. In order to do that he jumped ahead many years in the future in the middle of the story and left the audience to figure it out for themselves. The inability of Boxy to understand the social structures of humanoid races was one of the most enjoyable aspects of his character but in this book he blends in perfectly. It was almost as if the author ran out of character development ideas and jumped to an epic battle instead. That said, the writeup of the war was terrible. He wrote it as if it was two individual battles conducted between two RPG groups instead of a well thought through and planned campaign with a purpose. The result was just plain boring. I still enjoyed the narration and this was far from the worst book I've heard, just don't expect it to be the same caliber as his previous three.

Love it or don't

At this point in. The series you know what to expect or do do you? Love the style light and silly, I was amused through the whole book.

Amazing Series!

What started as a fun casual story with book one has turned into one of my absolute favorite series of all times.

Perfect audiobook and book

I love ELLC. The humor is always clever and spot-on. The action is phenomenal. The perspective changes are executed flawlessly and at great moments. The characters are some of my favorites. And the audio for this book is probably SBT’s best thus far. Can’t wait to listen to the next entry!

not my favorite but the ending is good

Continues the series welll enough, at times feels a little disjointed. Love the ending though could kind of go anywhere it wants for the next one but still had a fun resolution.
