About this listen

Defeat Your Cravings is a comprehensive update of Dr. Livingston's experience with over a million fans of his many previous books (over 20,000 cumulative reviews) and with literally thousands of clients. It's also been updated to include scientific research into cravings formation and extinction, as well as the impact of community and the food industry on overeating behavior (and its extinction).

  • Dramatically reduce “impossible to resist” cravings
  • Reduce frequency of giving in by over 85 percent
  • Recover faster from mistakes
  • Think less about food and more about life!

Glenn Livingston, PhD, is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million-dollar consulting firm that has served several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun Times, The Indiana Star Ledger, The NY Daily News, or American Demographics. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, CBS radio, or UPN TV.

Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and food-obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients and a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Perhaps more important is his own journey out of food obsession and obesity into a normal, healthy relationship with food.

Short and practical

I love that this approach does not tell you what to eat and what not to eat. As a fellow psychologist, I know that most of our food solutions are in our head!

Info useful, reference to "my pig" and "pig slop".

Too bad the author insists on referring to his reptilian brain as My Pig, and binge foods as Pig Slop. Its very annoying, and detracts from the quality of his message and helpful suggestions.
He addresses people's objections to referring to part of themselves as ThePig, and binge foods as Pig Slop by telling the reader to come up with their own names to refer to themselves. its kind of like: "well tough, its my book and I'll use the name i want" - okay. The name The Pig is very unprofessional when used by a psychologist and author. Sorry, not funny or cute, IMO.
