Publisher's summary

Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft. EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources, and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure. But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

...I guess my expectations were just set too high.

I'm going to keep this short and succinct so I don't accidently drop a spoiler.

There was a sizable cast of characters in this story, but with one or two possible exceptions, they were all so unlikable that I really didn't care what happened to them in any given scene. That made it difficult enough to enjoy, but what drove me crazy about the story was the totally unbelievable motivating factor that drives the primary antagonist. I can suspend an awful lot of disbelief to enjoy a thriller, but that was just too much for me.

Signer & Porter? Yes, please

What did you love best about Earthcore?

Fast paced, bogged down a little bit in the middle, but overall kept my interest through the whole 19 hours.

What did you like best about this story?

The character development. I felt like I really got to know (most of) the reasons the characters reacted the way they did.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Porter is hands down my favorite narrator and was a perfect choice for this book. I have listened to almost everything he has done. This was an automatic buy for me, and did not disappoint.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Why is this not a movie already?

Any additional comments?

Well worth the credit, highly recommend.

Scott Sigler is amazing

It has been a few years since I read this one and... While I remembered that is was great - I forgot just how amazing it is!

I have listened to all of Scott Sigler's books through the years as he released them free as serialized podcasts and another, free platform as well.
Ray Porter does a great job!
I have been purchasing them through Audible because I enjoy the way they are organized and, mainly, I want to support Scott Sigler - FDO!

incredible book! had to I buy the physical book.

The development of the story us really well done! at times it's mysterious. At others it's a perfect mixture of slightly creepy and dark, and mysterious. this is my favorite stand-alone book of the year. I am excited for the sequel. The story is just so, so good. I'm big on spoilers so I am being intentionally vague. but the beginning setup hooks you, then the dropping of additional pieces of the story keep reeling you in. The explanation for the events is very satisfying and it is in a very explainable way. I'm blown away by this book. loved it!!

knocked my socks off

I didn't really have high expectations for the book but soon after the start I was hooked. The book was quite intelligent and entertaining. The end went a bit over the top but overall I'd still say it was one of my favorite books and of course worth the credit.

Ray Porter is the Narrator!

The science is solid! The adventure is strong. The action is great. The writing quality is solid. It’s great read and or listen! Another story to get me through marathon training runs!

Awesome read!

This was a great read. I flew through this 20 hour book like it was a 5 hour read. I highly recommend this solidly-paced, thoroughly entertaining book.

P.s.
I was literally laughing out loud at the start of book 2 when a certain annoying character smoked everyone out in the Land Rover 🤣

My modern journey to the center of the earth

awesome narration even though I've grown so accustomed to Sigler's own readings. I was engaged the whole way through and life around me melted away as I was drawn into the constant thrilling drama.
My only qualm was with the ending but I won't include a spoiler.

Tough Love

No plot giveaway, but the cast of characters made it difficult to determine, or ultimately define, a true protagonist. At any given moment as the story progressed from a greed-driven narrative to a quest for survival I found myself judging the characters by who I disliked the least, not by any sense of rooting for a tragic hero/heroine.
The story pushes the imagination to acceptable boundaries, but ultimately leaves a few glaring realities in the dust as it progresses to its climax. The attorneys among us will better see those fiscally crippling omissions.
The performance was excellent and it was enjoyable to experience, just left me with a couple "Really? Them too." moments.
