Publisher's summary

Dahken Cor Pelson, a young man barely out of childhood, had found and freed a score of his people from the Loszian necromancer responsible for his parents’ murder. The responsibility of leadership has been thrust upon him, and he must somehow, with the help of a beautiful and deadly sorceress, manage to get his newfound people back across the Spine into the Shining West.

Once there, what new challenges will Cor face?

His new entourage may be Dahken, but they are still children. How will he protect them and teach them who and what they are?

Will Queen Erella and the good people of Aquis accept the Dahken within their lands? Or will they simply slaughter him for his trouble?

Great narrator!

Overall, this book was not my cup of tea. I am not a fan of fantasy; give me a good ol' history book any day. Also, I am not a fan of audio books in general. I have a difficult time carving out enough time to listen to them. My car radio is too old-fashioned - no Bluetooth - plus I don't spend much time in it. So, this story left me unimpressed.

HOWEVER, the narrator, Ed Bejarana, is great to listen to! He has a quintessential "American" commanding voice. If anything would make me a fan of audio books, it would be his voice. I can easily imagine him narrating a biography or autobiography of an American President or general or other leader. I see that he has narrated some non-fiction books that I might like, so maybe I'll go take a stab at them -- just for the voice!
