Publisher's summary

In Midkemia, there are no easy roads....

For 20 years the mercenaries Durine, Kethol, and Pirojil have fought other people's battles. Having already defeated the Tsurani, the Bugs, and the goblins, it seems there are no more enemies for them to vanquish - even as the Riftwar rages on in the west. What lies ahead for the able trio are a few welcomed months of restful garrison duty.

When ordered to accompany the promiscuous Lady Mondegreen, her aging husband, and her current lover to a summit in the city of LaMut, the Three Swords willingly comply, expecting an uncomplicated and undemanding assignment. But nothing is straightforward in this land of violence and treachery. And when the fury of a winter's storm traps them inside a castle teeming with ambitious, plotting lords and ladies, the mercenaries suddenly find themselves with a series of cold-blooded murders to solve...and the political future of Midkemia resting in their hands.

Narrator did a great job of characterization

There was not anything I disliked. Good narrative, great storytelling. Fascinating mystery, all the way to its end.

The Wry Wit, Pragmatism and Grammatical Precision are Hilarious

The three main characters are unforgettable, and the narration is top-notch. The story is arresting, and each word is chosen to deliver the maximum humor and cynicism that plague the mercenaries is engrossing and breathtaking

I enjoyed the wit and banter and dynamics of the three main characters in their interaction with one another, as well as the narration of the inner thoughts of the main characters

“Ask a soldier to solve a problem, and that’s exactly what he’ll do“ just don’t ask how!

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an appreciation for sardonic humor and wet, witty reparate

This is a standalone book, and no other books in the series are required reading to appreciate this narrative

Wonderful storytelling brought to life with skill

Fantastic character voicing enchants this gripping who-dun-it told through the eyes of critically flawed sleuths. An absolutely enjoyable time best listened to on a dark and chilly night. :)

Not horrible but sooo much fluff

The reader gets 5 stars hands-down, but the story... 3/4 of the whole. Book is just descriptions. It took so so very long to get to the actual plot, I got bored long before it got there.
