Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
Dan Allender's lyrical book about the Sabbath expels the myriad myths about this "day of rest," starting with the one that paints the Sabbath as a day of forced quiet, spiritual exercises, and religious devotion and attendance. This, he says, is at odds with the ancient tradition of Sabbath as a day of delight for both body and soul. Instead, the only way we can make use of the Sabbath is to see God's original intent for the day with new eyes. In Sabbath, Allender builds a case for delight by looking at this day as a festival that celebrates God's re-creative, redemptive love.

Brueggemann tells listeners how keeping the Sabbath allows us to break this restless cycle and focus on what is truly important: God, other people, all life.

Stillness as a virtue is a foreign concept in our society, but there is wisdom in God's own rhythm of work and rest. Jesus practiced sabbath among those who had turned it into a dismal thing, a day for murmuring and finger-wagging, and he reminded them of the day's true purpose: liberation - to heal, to feed, to rescue, to celebrate, to lavish and relish life abundant. With this audiobook, Buchanan reminds us of this and gives practical advice for restoring the sabbath in our lives.

This book highlighted exactly what has gone wrong
This was the best book I have read in a long time. It was like it was written for me. I have been telling friends my life has become unbalanced, but I didn't do anything about it. Now I have been diagnosed with cancer and my too busy life has come to a screeching halt. In comes Wayne Muller, hit the nail on the head, has explained how to get back on track, and now I begin my journey of healing and balance through Sabbath. Thank you for giving me permission.

A masterpiece on Sabbath keeping!
Wayne Mueller has captured the essence of Sabbath and given beautiful perspective on why it is so valuable and important. This book is one of my top five.

Fantastic. Listen to the audio version
Wayne has a wonderful cadence and poetic way that adds to the story.
I would highly recommend it to everyone

Not the Book
Since everyone else has commented on the content, let me point out something. The hardcover book was released in April 1999. This audio-book was released in December of the same year. Though the producers call this by the same name as the hardcover book, the narrator is reading from a different, greatly-modified version of the book. What, I don't know. Be advised.

Life changing
You have to hear it for yourself. Your life is worth it. I took notes and I rarely do that.
