Publisher's summary
After the death of a child, there is no closure. It is like learning how to live with an amputation—you are forever changed and need to learn how to live a new “normal”. There can be a feeling of desperation to find someone farther ahead on the path who can understand the crushing pain that makes you feel like you can’t even breathe at times.
Laura Diehl was plunged into that place with the death of her daughter and experienced the deep need to connect with others who had experienced what cannot be put into words. When Tragedy Strikes is the raw account of her journey from deep darkness back into light and life, extending a hand of hope to those traveling on the path behind her who need to rebuild their lives after the death of a child.
Critic reviews
"If you have suffered great tragedy and struggle to connect with God in your grief and disappointment, When Tragedy Strikes was written for you." (Wayne Jacobsen, author of He Loves Me! Learning to Live in the Father’s Affection)

God wants to do more in our lives than we can possibly imagine. So why do we settle for less? Many times, it's because we are afraid to ask. Whether we feel selfish or silly doing so, or we want to let God off the hook in case He doesn't answer, we rarely pray for our deepest desires--not realizing that our desires are often dreams conceived by God that He wants to fulfill. Story
Pastor and speaker Shane Pruitt guides listeners in identifying the Christian cliches we've all heard that are actually unbiblical lies. He then counters with the truths about God as presented in the Bible - truths that bring encouragement and freedom for our lives. God won't give you more than you can handle. Really? Pastor and speaker Shane Pruitt shines a light on this and other Christian cliches that upon further inspection are actually unbiblical lies that keep far too many believers stuck in spiritual immaturity.

Story
When you’re in the midst of suffering, you want answers for the unanswerable, resolutions to the unresolvable. But there is a pathway through this suffering. It’s not easy, but God will use it to lead you toward healing. This path is called lament. In the midst of your darkest times, you will discover that lament leads you back to a place of hope - not because lamenting does anything magical, but because God sings a louder song than suffering ever could, a song of renewal and restoration.

Story
In her new book, Stasi Eldredge meets listeners in their painful realities and offers an invitation to a joy that is defiant in the face of this broken world. This joy does not Pollyannaish-ly ignore life's heartache; rather, it insists that sorrow and loss do not have the final say. This kind of joy is present to both goodness and grief and interprets them in the light of heaven.

It's time to stop trying to be the perfect mom. You long to be the mom your kids need, but often you're convinced you come up short. The label "not enough" seems to be stamped across everything you do - and yet parenting is the one thing you want most to get right. What if the solution is simply to embrace the truth that you are not enough - but God is?

Excellent resource for people who have lost children
Excellent resource for people who have lost children. The author is Christian and brings her faith into the text so be prepared for that. She is also several years away from the death of her adult daughter so for those who have recently lost a younger child, you will need to take some of the “hopeful” advice with a grain of salt. It’s hard to explain what I mean unless you have lost a child. Still the same, she continually acknowledges that there is no formula, no timeline, and that all grief is different so that is helpful. I have been reading a lot of books, trying to find comfort, direction, community while in the depths of grief and her books are really helpful.
