An Excellent Transition!

I've seen at least one review saying that they shouldn't have swapped narrators. I felt that the transition was smoothe and unproblematic, and in many ways, improved the book! John Pirhalla did an excellent job!

I also think that this book was very excellent. It felt to me as if solid progress was being made in progressing the storyline! That, in and of itself, made this one of the best of recent installments. As always, it was a pleasure to see my favorite light-based grandpa in a genre dominated by dark-aligned anti-heroes, and if I had to sum up the book in a single word, I would call it "fun!"

DNF

I'm struggling to finish this. The new narrator is annoying but the real problem is that the plot just meanders about without a point. Like I enjoy all these characters l, but I can't just listen to them update their lives for hours on end.

Good book but bring back Travis Baldree

Once again the writer delivers a good story but tons of the characters names have changed, like they got sick of their old names and wanted new ones. This makes it confusing to keep track of who is actually who at times. On the other hand we get to see the return of some old characters, which is good.
My biggest gripe is the performer, this guy would be decent if you were starting a new series on a budget but he is no Travis Baldree, not by a long shot.

Change in Narrator stands out badly

I love this series of books but this one is not one of my favorites. I always look forward for them but the change in narrator is not working. The voices are way off and makes it hard to follow the story. The voices just don’t fit. It was very hard to get through. I constantly have to go back and re-listen to parts. Hopefully they go back the old narrator.

I know it’s not his fault. But my heart hurts

I’ve been following this series since book one. This is the series that got me started on audible. I was there on Cals first day. I’ve been there through the old man’s struggle. But this wasn’t him. And my heart hurts.

Travis Baldree IS this story for me. He is the voice, the heart , and soul.. without him this feels wrong. Artorian isn’t the same, so love seems lost.

This reader did a great job! If it would’ve been any other story I would’ve loved it. But this deep in to a story and this attachment to these characters to suddenly be so different.. I struggled. I couldn’t focus and my brain had to work double time to match names and voices to previous points in past stories.

I saw many posts explaining why this happened. But I think I would have rather waited.

My big negative for the actual story was the addition of the 4th wall break talking about “books” and the books to come. It seemed so forced on top of the new reader.. just didn’t hit right!

Still a fan! Still invested! Just give me back Travis Baldree

I Feel Like John Pirhalla don't Care.

I am About 50% in when Writting this and i feel i can say that John either Don't care about ALL THE WORK Baldree has done or he dosn't try too emulate anything. i hornestly don't care. Artorian sounds Like A mountain of a man with how Bloody deep he has gone HE'S AN OLD MAN. not too mention all the other caraters that we have come too love.

And i am Sry too Say this But they sould have waited on Baldree And if the Next one is the same as this i Aint even gonna try too Hear it.

great book horrible narration!

not completely finished with the book but have had multiple stops and starts. the narrator didn't bother listening to any of the other books and the producer didn't bother to make sure they pronounced names the same . After spending over 100$ on this series I'm wanting to pull my hair out listening to this book. the way the narrator portrayed the characters completely changed their personalities.
the book it's self has been great loved the new changes and it's been a very interesting story line

lazy narrator change

I understand if you have to switch narrator (stuff happens), but why us it yhere seems to be no effort in keeping a continuity between narration. I don't see why the new narrator can't try to achieve a voice approximating the original. it foes not need to be exact but some voices suddenly are completely different.
