An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world. In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond.

Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Go Behind the Scenes of Where Should We Begin?: The Arc of Love
A relationship wizard works her magic
Esther Perel’s book Mating in Captivity was a bible for me when I first moved in with my girlfriend a year and a half ago. And I kept coming back to it in those first few months (first…16 months?) as my girlfriend and I have worked on ironing out our different…perceptions of reality. Perel immediately established herself as someone with a next-level understanding of relationships in my mind, as I’m sure she will in yours. Nowhere is that on better display than when we get the chance to listen to her council couples through their complicated relationship issues, as she does in Arc of Love. It’s amazing to see how quickly she grasps the core issue each time, and how assertive she is in getting her patients to confront those issues in a productive way. And really, to be frank: it’s just a lot of fun to compare those core issues with ones I, for one, have experienced a few too many times.
About the Author and Performer
Esther Perel, the New York Times best-selling author of The State of Affairs, has transformed the conversation on what it means to be in love and have a thriving intimate relationship. For the past thirty-five years, she has worked with thousands of couples around the world who have grappled with a variety of relational challenges – from intimacy to infidelity. In addition to providing therapeutic sessions for clients in her New York City private practice, Perel consults and speaks regularly on erotic intelligence, conflict resolution, and human connection. Weaving true love stories with incisive psychological and cultural analysis, she invites listeners into a revealing exploration of modern marriage. Her provocative audio series, Where Should We Begin? is an Audible Original.Featured Article: The Best Listens on Marriage for Every Couple
The word "marriage" may conjure images of extravagant clothes, gold rings, and reciting vows on a tropical beach at sunset. But those are all features of a wedding, not a marriage. Marriage itself is a far more difficult and consequential endeavor that, in an ideal scenario, will last a lifetime. So whether you’re preparing to take the plunge or looking to strengthen your marriage, it's never a bad idea to get advice from a variety of trusted sources.

Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

liked even when I expected not to
I really enjoyed learning to the different struggles that couples and families have and Dr. Perel's ability to get them to explore their feelings and emotions in a supportive way.
I picked the book as it was the 2nd pick and closest thing to something I was interested in. I was sad when it ended as I really enjoyed all the guiding advice.
Give it a try. I think you will not regret it.

Interesting View of Other People's Problems
This "audiobook" contains recordings of couples therapy sessions that allow you to be a fly on the wall. The struggles are real and engaging. I found it interesting that the problems other people have are similar to the problems of myself and friends and family of mine, making it very relatable.

LOVE ♥ ☺ ♥
I Love Esther Perel's book/show. I am learning things about myself that I never thought I would, and finding out that I am not so crazy after all and I deserve everything that I desire... And that IT IS POSSIBLE! Thank you so much Dr. Perel!

Unexpected Awesomeness
I picked this on a whim, as it is outside of my normal reading. I found that I could relate to each of the relationships on some level, and it caused me to do some reflecting and I honestly enjoyed the whole experience.

exceptional
I loved the layout. Wouldn't work as a read. Needs to be listened to, to grasp the depth and content of thoughts. thank you Esther, for the lessons and truths I have learned and been reminded of.
