New York Times Best Seller

Han Solo and Lando Calrissian are reunited on the Millennium Falcon in a galaxy-spanning novel inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story. But even the fastest ship in the galaxy can’t outrun the past...

THEN:

It’s one of the galaxy’s most dangerous secrets: a mysterious transmitter with unknown power and a reward for its discovery that most could only dream of claiming. But those who fly the Millennium Falcon throughout its infamous history aren’t your average scoundrels. Not once, but twice, the crew of the Falcon tries to claim the elusive prize - first, Lando Calrissian and the droid L3-37 at the dawn of an ambitious career, and later, a young and hungry Han Solo with the help of his copilot, Chewbacca. But the device’s creator, the volatile criminal Fyzen Gor, isn’t interested in sharing. And Gor knows how to hold a grudge....

NOW:

It’s been 10 years since the rebel hero Han Solo last encountered Fyzen Gor. After mounting a successful rebellion against the Empire and starting a family with an Alderaanian princess, Han hasn’t given much thought to the mad inventor. But when Lando turns up at Han’s doorstep in the middle of the night, it’s Fyzen’s assassins that he’s running from. And without Han’s help, Lando - and all life on Cloud City - will be annihilated.

With the assistance of a young hotshot pilot, an Ewok slicer prodigy, the woman who might be the love of Lando’s life, and Han’s best and furriest friend, the two most notorious scoundrels in the New Republic are working together once more. They’ll have to journey across the stars - and into the past - before Gor uses the device’s power to reshape the galaxy.

Praise for Last Shot:

“Action-packed in all the right ways.” (Tordotcom)

“A fun, breezy read, with plenty of humor, Ewok hackers, murderous robots, and rousing fight scenes as Han and Lando go from scrape to scrape [to] track down a long-forgotten enemy.” (The Verge)

“The flat-out funniest Star Wars novel to date.” (Alternative Nation)

Too many narrators

The story was average to good & I was ok with the constant flashbacks as it did serve the story. Having a different narrator for every time period seems like it would be a cool idea but was annoying in reality.

An entertaining story featuring the scoundrels.

Where does Last Shot rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

As a big fan of Han Solo, for me, this book ranked as a slightly above average Star Wars Story. It had a couple of moments that made me genuinely laugh out loud and all the adventure that I’d expect from this universe.

What other book might you compare Last Shot to and why?

Uh, in someways, I suppose that it compares to Scoundrels by Timothy Zhan. In the sense that it is very much a Han and Lando story with a cast of interesting side characters.

In other respects, Han in the Disney canon is just different than he used to be and this entry continues that conflict that he has with wanting to roam the galaxy, but also needing to be with Leia and their young son.

Also this story bounces you around to a lot of different time periods that come together in the end. Which isn’t the way most Star Wars books, up to this point, have been written.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Marc Thomson, as usual, is terrific. I swear he brings about 20 to 50 different combinations of voices, dialects and accents to each Star Wars adventure that he’s reading. His Lando is especially on point, imho.

Some people mentioned not particularly enjoying January’s preformances for the ‘Young Lando’ segments, but she made a great reader for the female droid character— who in my opinion, was the more significant presence in that part of the story.

Daniel Jose Older reads the ‘Young Han’ parts. The performance was pretty good and there were certain beats that he hit in reading the story that he knew to emphasize because he is the author. When you’re reading a story along side of Marc Thompson, though, it’s difficult to compare favorably.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

“We’re going to figure it out together.”

The flashbacks 🤦🏽‍♂️

The flashbacks killed the pace of book, some of it was unnecessary but towards the end they finally got it together

Okay but not great

The books goes back and forth a lot in time and to help keep it from getting confusing they use three readers. One is excellent and the other two are pretty good but not as good. The plot gets a bit confusing at times. There seems to be more emotion and feeling that seems to be out of place for the characters which was a negative. Also, there are dozens of modern expressions that are used and doesn’t fit the genre well. It was slow and hard to get through at times. Three stars at best.

Pretty Good. But Didnt Blow me Away

it's good. but I waited a long time to listen to it and I guess it was Kristian Harloffs mixed review of it, that caused it. It wasnt as distracting as he made it seem but I got his point. The story was lacking a little.

3 narrators threw me off.

The story was really good. I am just used to having Marc Thompson reading the Star Wars books. When it would change to the other narrators, it would just jar my train of thought.

Readers Could've been better.

The overall story is great, however, the reader that reads Han's story from 10 years ago is terrible. The worst reader in all the line of books I've read already. The other readers from this and other previous stories are far better. I found it difficult to follow the story when that particular reader narrated. All else was very entertaining.

some high points, but less than others

I loved parts of this book. I would urge fans to buy it, but there were a few issues that prevented it from a 5 star rating. still great Star Wars Escapism.
