great book but....

I loved the book. it's different from any style I've heard before. my 1 grip with it is that the last chapter feels like it's has SEVERAL missing chapters before it. characters are all of a sudden in a floor they aren't supposed to be in battle.

My super helpful review.

when I bought this book, none of the reviews were all that helpful, so I figured I'd give it a read and help people out.
This book is about a person who gets reincarnated into an npc cat girl surrounded by cheese heretics. The story is about how they cope with the boredom and the non cheese heretic friends they make along the way. It's all a marble race. Everything is a marble race. the dungeon is a marble race.

Nearly Perfect

I was looking for something silly, fun, and lighthearted. I found it. It was actually much better than I thought it would be and just a blast to listen to. Really, my only gripe with it was the jarring, abrupt ending, which itself came at a disjointed chapter that I guess was supposed to be a setup for a cliffhanger but was more jarring and annoying than anything and sort of spoiled the mood. Don't get me wrong, though, it is totally worth listening to. I'm guessing this was probably written as a web serial originally and the author just chose a point nearly at random to crash the book into the ground. It's obvious there will be more, so I'll be looking forward to it. Honestly, though, I feel like this should have carried through to cycle 100.

great pairing of book with reader

It took me a while to understand and appreciate the style that this was written in. It isn’t the traditional formula for a novel, but developing a world full of humor and nuance that lays the foundation for great storytelling in the future. by itself, this one is a fun ride. The narrator is amazing and brings all the characters to life. She’s really a top tier quality narrator. I’ll be promoting this one to my lit rpg groups.

Very entertaining Story

very chill story, my only gripe with it is the abrupt ending where i felt like it needed one more chapter to set up from the abrupt change from diary to player side

Life in Purgatory

The book is kind of cute and fun. Very lighthearted in young adult style. However, it has no real plot. You could literally call this book “describing a few months in purgatory”. Yes, all the characters are basically in purgatory because they’ve all died and their consciousness was transferred to make them NPC‘s in a dungeon where nothing really changes…seriously.

About 10% of the book is the main character talking about who won the marble races each cycle, even though the marble races literally have nothing to do with the rest of the story other than that they like to race marbles on a track because they are super bored.

Most of the book is written from the perspective of the main character making her diary entries. This means most of the book is written in the past tense. I think it kind of takes away from the emotional investment when you say "we were eaten by wolves" rather than describe the story as they are trying to survive a dangerous encounter.

There is very little action of any kind and most of the "story" is just about them making friends with other NPCs. The last 10 minutes of the book hints that the author might have the smallest idea for a possible plot in a future book; but that's all. Not sure if I'll try the sequel. The lack of a real plot and the past tense writing makes it less enjoyable. However, the book does has a positive, fun, and playful tone, with a bit of humor, which is enjoyable.

A great comedy written as a diary.

This is a hilarious slice of life with adorable girls and the friends they make. The ending is a bit confusing but opens up to the possibility of the main cast to be more than npcs in the future.
