Publisher's summary

I see you, Roman. You want to fight me, and then you want to be so good for me.

We’re lost boys, wild and forgotten. Born into a world of poverty and crime, my two best friends and I have nothing to rely on except each other. But I have a plan: if I can film viral BDSM porn, I might rake in enough cash to get us out of this trailer park before we become another gang-violence statistic. Kink is a rich man’s game—high-end clubs, dungeons full of toys—but maybe two dirt-poor boys with homemade gear can still compete.

First, I need a sub. I’m looking for someone perfect and obedient—until the new boy moves into town. He’s huge, silent, and skittish, broken down by pain and loneliness. But when he’s cornered, he fights like an animal. An animal who desperately wants to be tamed. When I look into his eyes, the flash of submission I see there has me obsessed. When he kneels for me, both our broken worlds become whole.

Nobody believes that trailer park boys deserve a better life, that we can find happiness and build our own family. But we’re fighters, and together, the four of us will find a way to be free.

An intense, emotional story about resilience and trauma, kink, hurt/comfort, a smaller dom/larger sub, and found family. Contains some dark and difficult subject matter. Please look inside the front of the book on the Kindle page for a content advisory.

New to me author and a great listen!

This is a new to me author and I definitely will be reading/listening to more. I really enjoyed how these men are working to try and make a better life for themselves. I also really appreciate the found family aspect and also how they accept new people to the family.

Excellent!

Riley Nash is such a great storyteller! I read a story of hers about two guys in a train wreck, and I was hooked!
This story is no less dynamic. The BDSM part of this story is not as sexy as it is an important element between the MCs. I really recommend this tale, and love how in the end, Rowan finds his voice.

I didn't realize this story could get better...

I discovered Riley Nash this year, and he is FIRE. I will truly read anything and everything he writes. So, when the ARC audiobook for Bad Dogs became available on GRR, I jumped at the chance to listen! As such, this is my honest review and here's my bottom line: whether you prefer reading or listening, this book will break you and then build you up again. You will have all the feels, good and bad, as you stumble along with Scout and Roman. This is one of those books that I wish I could read for the first time all over again--and I guess, to a degree, I got my wish with the audiobook.

Since I already loved my first reading of Bad Dogs, I didn't realize this story could get better; but the narration truly elevated an already stunning book. The combination of Devon Ryder and Bryant Walker really brought Scout and Roman to life. I loved how both narrators emoted and supported the personalities of the MCs and the surrounding characters. Given that this story is both angsty and gritty, the narrators' vocal tones and general flow really connect the reader/listener to both the characters' big emotions and the oftentimes tense storylines. Truly, I cannot say enough good things about this book, audiobook, and author. I highly recommend picking up and/or listening to Bad Dogs!

Scout and Roman

𝐁𝐚𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐬 by Riley Nash, the first book in the Dirty Strays series, is Scout and Roman's story.

Riley Nash knows how to hook you in, rip you to pieces and put you back together again.

Roman is the strong silent type but also feels out of place in the new town that his brother just moved them to. Scout is captivated by Roman the minute he lays eyes on him and is determined to claim him.

Scout and Roman are so broken that they make the perfect pair. Scout becomes quickly possessive over Roman and has the ability to make Roman feel comfortable enough to be able to use his words. I love the little found family of Scout, Roman, Dallas, and Beck and can not wait for more from these Dirty Strays.

Bryant Walker and Devon Ryder both were amazing at bringing Roman, Scout and the entire story to life.

Get ready for... mm, bdsm, virgin, secret relationship, hurt/comfort, found family, disability (silent mc), sex worker (webcam), and dual first-person point of view.

Kinks & Triggers... praise kink, physical abuse, verbal abuse, violence, drugs, grief/loss, bdsm (restraints, impact play, safewording, smaller dom/larger sub, master/pup)

My 4⭐️ review became 5⭐️ after this audio

There’s not much that can make a book better once I’ve read it but that is sometimes changed based on how well the audiobook is done. When I originally read Bad Dogs, I rated it an emotional 4⭐️ read. After listening to the audio, my rating has changed to 5⭐️. The narration was on point. The narrators both did an outstanding job voicing Scout and Roman. Kudos to the author once again for letting us live vicariously through your characters.

A great story enhanced by great narrating

Considering I didn't read this book before listening to the audiobook, this will be another all-in-one review. Again. Sorry.

The book has two new-to-me narrators (dual narration in MM <3), and I enjoyed how they both embodied their characters very well. I don't know which narrator voiced Scout or Roman, but both Devon Ryder and Bryant Walker did a really good job with this book. I will say there was a stretch where you could tell there had been quite a bit of editing because of how the sound of the narration was different from the rest for just a sentence or two, and then back to 'normal'. That happens in most audiobooks though, and even though I don't hold it against anyone, it did pull me out of the story a couple of times while at it's 'worst', for a lack of a better word. Riley Nash is like we all know a really talented writer, and I enjoyed hearing the words in audio. Someone stop me from running to the 'zon to buy the audio for Make Me Fall.

Roman is another one of those characters I just want to wrap up, hug tight and keep safe for all eternity. He can live in my closet with all the other characters that make me cry every time they utter a single sentence or think about how they'll just have to live a shitty situation because there's nothing better on the horizon for them. Those characters have a direct line to my tear ducts, and they yank on it constantly. I know I cry easily, but damn. He's just the sweetest muscled teddy bear that goes absolutely feral when cornered, and has a habit of biting while angry, stressed, horny or happy. I think we can just say 'he has a habit of biting' after laying it out like that, lol. I still love him though. And I super enjoyed his interactions with Tubs (I think that's the dogs name, anyway), as well as Becks and Dallas. Their blossoming friendship and their acceptance of Roman and everything about him was some of my favorite bits.

“He saw it as soon as he looked at me. I let people do whatever they want to me while I just kneel down and take it. It doesn’t matter that I have a strong body when it’s my head that’s weak.”

This friend group is amazing. None of them have all that much when it comes to material possessions, they're involved in gangs, they live in falling-apart-at-the-seams trailers, they steal and vandalize cars, but they are nothing if not loyal to each other. There's just a blanket acceptance of all that they are. It just goes to show that it doesn't cost a damn thing to be nice, accepting and tolerant of others. it did take me a little while to connect with Scout, but we got there in the end. Even though he's new to the D/s lifestyle and made some (quite serious) mistakes along the way in the scenes with Roman, he wasn't a bad person at all. Just young and inexperienced.

I'm constantly going back and forth with my thoughts on the D/s dynamic with Roman and Scout in this book. One of my thoughts is that these boys shouldn't partake in a power exchange relationship at all. Lack of aftercare, the submissive pushing himself way past the threshold for safewording, etc. If this was done because of a lack of knowledge or understanding by the author, this would either be a DNF or extremely low rating, but I know it's done this way on purpose. These boys are inexperienced, and they make mistakes. That's the point. It's just highly uncomfortable reading it at times. Their D/s relationship, especially the sexual parts, is executed badly, but written well. I honestly confuse myself trying to explain it all. On the other side of this highly confusing coin, I do appreciate reading about a BDSM relationship that isn't based in some rich-person-only kink club. Kink should be for everyone.

I really enjoyed the underlying theme of being willing to do just about anything in order to better your situation. Scout had a really tragic backstory, but he was determined to make it a better one, and he wanted to take his friends with him as he did. Maybe he wasn't quite polished on the outside, but his soul was without a doubt really pure and sweet.

In fear of ending up with a several pages long review, I'll end with this: I love D/s dynamics that fall outside of the 'norm' in terms of perception. In this case, the size difference is reversed from what we often see in these kinds of relationships. Roman is a submissive, as well as being a large man. Scout is a dom, and he's smaller than Roman. Love it. Oh, and I loved the audiobook. Highly recommend.

This is a story of finding what works for you...

This is a story of finding what works for you regardless of what others think.

This is book 1 in the series Dirty Strays by Riley Nash. This is the first book I've read/listened to by this author and it won't be my last. The narrators, Devon Ryder and Bryant Walker were both new to me and I loved both of their voices. They did a fantastic job portraying Roman and Scout.

I can't even figure out what to say for my review of this book, my brain is a mess of emotions. It definitely had all the feels and I fell in love with these guys. The daily struggles that Roman went through were brutal. That bother, don't even get me started.

I'm so happy Roman met up with Scout and the gang. It was almost like it was meant to be. They all felt like damaged puzzle pieces that somehow fit but shouldn't.

Bottom line, this was a great book and I'll be listening to it again. Can't wait for book 2.

I Love This Book!

The best book I’ve read so far this year is Riley Nash’s ‘Dirty Dogs’! Filled with tragic childhoods, even more tragic young adulthoods, abuse and poverty, Nash takes readers on a journey of emotional extremes in which two broken boys find the courage to latch onto happiness where they can, and in the process begin healing themselves and each other. The story features an initially under negotiated, baby Dom/sub dynamic that grows and strengthens throughout the book. Nash’s flawlessly written love story between Roman and Scout is out-and-out the best choice for those who love books that require the use of tissues (for both tears of sadness and joy).

I want to heap some adoration on narrators Devon Ryder and Bryant Walker. too. Both performers embody utter perfection in Roman and Scout’s characterizations.

Highly recommended! Book 2 can’t come soon enough!
