Discover the transformative effects of being kind to yourself

"This brilliant book offers us both the science and practice of how self-kindness is the secret sauce of fulfillment, transformation, and joy." (Lorin Roche, meditation teacher and author of The Radiance Sutras)

Many of us yearn to feel a greater sense of inner calm, ease, joy, and purpose. We have tried meditation and found it too difficult. We judge ourselves for being no good at emptying our minds (as if one ever could) or compare ourselves with yogis who seem to have it all together. We live in a steady state of "not good enough". It does not have to be this way.

In Good Morning, I Love You, Dr. Shauna Shapiro brings alive the brain science behind why we feel the way we do - about ourselves, each other, and the world - and explains why we get stuck in thinking that doesn’t serve us. It turns out that we are hardwired to be self-critical and negative! And this negativity is constantly undermining our experience of life.

"It is never too late to rewire your brain for positivity - for calm, clarity, and joy," writes Dr. Shapiro. "I know this is possible because I experienced it. Best of all, you can begin wherever you are." In short, lively chapters laced with science, wisdom, and story, Shapiro, one of the leading scientists studying the effects of mindfulness on the brain, shows us that acting with kindness and compassion toward ourselves is the key.

With her road map to guide you, including her signature "Good Morning, I Love You" practice, in which you deliberately greet yourself each day with these simple words, you can change your brain's circuitry and steady yourself in feelings of deep calm, clarity, and joy. For good.

Perfect for the fear of abandonment...

So...I never write reviews...
Yet, this book was absolutely amazing. At the ripe old age of 40 I have really become in tune with the fact that I don't show myself enough love and don't fully recognize my worth, leading to lots of people pleasing and placing unfair expectations on people in relationships. In an effort to no longer self sabotage relationships and be more mindful of the way I speak to myself I sought out a couple of books on self-love and detachment. One book I started, only an hour in decided to go back to the drawing board to browse and then this book appeared. From beginning to end, her soothing voice, her level of compassion and not brow beating, the beautiful stories she told, and her vulnerability, I was able to immediately embrace everything she was saying. The golden nuggets at the end end of the chapters were awesome and although I may not have been in a space to do them right as I listened, it was easy to go back an revisit the chapter later to touch on them. This book is definitely going to be a staple in my life. I listened to a couple of chapters a few times and I see myself listening to the entire book again and again, after I read another book she mentioned in the chapter about being mindful in sex. Lol.

I have struggled with attachment anxiety in my relationships and for once I really took on acceptance, not having to control what I simply can't control and it's been life changing and empowering. My boyfriend has already seen the change and honestly its like this wave of tension in my body was removed. Anyone who struggles with anxiety, fear of abandonment, depression, issues with self worth, please read this book. I guarantee it will change your life. My sister passed away from an overdose on February 2013. She struggled with anxiety and depression and damn, I really wish we could've read this book together. She was always searching for the answers, strategies and it would have been such an awesome exercise to navigate our mindfulness meditation journey together. This book also helped me with forgiving myself in that relationship and the boundaries that I put up when dealing with my sister's addiction.

Thank you Shauna...with tears in my eyes...just thank you! This book is an absolute gem!

Good material

I’ve read a lot of books about mindfulness. For me, there is not much in this book that was new, but the layout of the book, and the moments at the end of each chapter to take time and journal were a nice addition.

Just what I needed

Gifted by the universe exactly when I needed it most. Cracked open my heart to the wisdom and importance of cultivating compassion and providing permission for self-compassion. I am grateful for Dr. Shapiro’s message of love, compassion and forgiveness and for providing the tools of practice.

Good material

I really like the material but I had difficulty with following the Kindle book with the Audible version. It was all over the place. I probably won't do both Audible & Kindle in future books with this author.
